Bosque Estatal de Guánica

Bosque Estatal de Guánica protects one of the Caribbean's most important subtropical dry-forest landscapes. The reserve extends across Puerto Rico's southwest and includes limestone hills, dry woodland, mangroves, rocky and sandy coast, caves, salt flats, and marine habitat. Trails reveal plants and wildlife adapted to an environment very different from the island's rainforest, including endemic and threatened species. The forest was established in 1919 and later recognized as an international biosphere reserve. Heat can be intense, making an early start, water, and sun protection essential.
